Yebel is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Tsorva Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data[edit]

Kinnison System[edit]

The companion is Kinnison, an ordinary red main sequence star. Kinnison and Kindel, the companion star, orbit one another at a mean separation of 343 AU and have an orbital period around their barycenter of approximately 7600 years. Kinnison has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, (II) a thin atmosphere bigworld, (III) a dense rocky planetoid belt, (IV) a large gas giant, (V) a large gas giant, (VI) a small gas giant, and (VII) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Kindel-Yebel Subsystem[edit]

The primary is Kindel, a dim red main sequence star. Kindel and Kinnison, the primary star, orbit one another at a mean separation of 343 AU and have an orbital period around their barycenter of approximately 7600 years. Kindel has a luminosity of 0.0025 Sols, a mass of 0.244 Sols, and a diameter of 334,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) the Yebel Main Belt, designated the mainworld, (III) a small gas giant, (IV) a small ice giant, and (V) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Both of the giant worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(II) Yebel Main Belt[edit]

(II) the Yebel Main Belt orbits within the outer zone and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 0.41 AU from Kindel and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 100 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 0.26 AU from the star and the the outer edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of icy bodies, is considered to lie at approximately 0.56 AU. The main inhabited body is a cratered oval rock named Fenian's Stone, with a mean orbital distance of 0.33 AU around Kindel and an orbital period of 140 days 4 hours. It has a long axis of 270 km, a density of 3.32 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.013 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: -172°C in sunlight, -220°C in shadow.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

This world is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

This world has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

This world has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Native Lifeforms[edit]

No world in the Yebel system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

A former colony born out of border clashes and conflict.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Yebel has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

This world has a population of 100,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics[edit]

Humaniti, population 95%

  • Other, population 5%
  • Hoppers and Temelik pockets persist mixed into the larger outposts.

World Government (G)[edit]

Yebel is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

This world has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Yebel possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Military[edit]

Small mercenary units predominate. What passes for law and order is enforced by platoons of local raised and trained protected forces. These marines are issued efficient reactionless EVA maneuver packs, with tear N swear suit patches, vacuum suits, and laser rifles. They carry 24 hours of life support, and each platoon networked command, computational and communications grid has an integral system range radio.

  • A local mercenary unit employs an elite security detail for the discerning executives, for whom decapitation would prove inconvenient. These thirteen ladies are referred to as the Witches. They are trained and calculating professionals. They dual wield long curved swords as they signature melee weapons. A few of the terrestrial worlds and moons in the system host their temple/monasteries.

World Economy (Ex)[edit]

Mineral extraction and export is the main industry. The economy is limited here. There are few exports, and these are processed ores and raw materials used by industrial worlds nearby. The orbital refineries and ore processing smelters are mission critical. They are central to what is left of the economy.

Trade Data[edit]

Trade Classifications for this world:

  • No information yet available.

Trade Lines with other worlds:

  • No information yet available.

A relatively small amount of trade passes through this system. A few major corporations maintain a low key presence in this system, almost entirely through smaller subsidies and front shell companies to limit their exposure and liability.

Urbanization[edit]

World Infrastructure[edit]

This world possesses TBD infrastructure.

World Culture (Cx)[edit]

A Border World with several colonial factions dating from the Scybrian Polyarchy and during the Nist War, proxies from the Corolian Jurisdicture arrived in system. They were never successfully ejected and have become part of the local community.

The High Senate maintains a 200 ton Xadis class Patrol Ship, HSS Xenu Revile, they stay on station for two months of patrol duty and then are switched with a fresh ship and crew. The Unity of Sed, maintains a covert outpost. They are periodically visited by a Unity class Scout, the crew of which doesn’t typically wait around to pose for pictures. There is an Inquiry class Lab Ship, the RSS Empirical Replication, it functions as a drug factory. The legal medicines are a cover for illicit compounds. Belter clans tend to have segments of their populations which are addicts. They use to avoid the feelings of isolation and drudgery of mining.

The starport is small but fully staffed and reasonably well equipped. Catering, refueling and resupply companies have rival facilities within the system. They compete to provide ship services paid for with the berthing fees. There are small shipyards for minor repairs and routine maintenance. Single ship drydocks, and maintenance gantries hang with tank farms within easy reach of the larger rocks and moons. Small service bays offer custom modifications. They are available at double normal prices and they take twice as long to complete. Fenian's Stone is home to Retrograde Zinc, a famous cantina. It is named after a rich deposit a belter found on a strange spinning rock long ago. The popular buffet is cheap and the drinks are strong.

Clans of pirates control some remote portions of the system. They run salvage teams which remove any items of value from derelict vessels for black market resale. They tend to leave duffle bags with severed heads as a warning to people who cross them. There is no second chance after that. They operate bands of small fast raider vessels from larger dispersed structure motherships. Only the these factory workshop motherships are jump capable. They lurk around the gas giants and asteroids.

Drifting shoals of wreckage and debris float in irregular clusters in the aftermath of the titanic struggles fought here. Bombed out space habitats and surface facilities on larger asteroids are frequently found in ruins, from a period of time when the indigenous population was much larger. Survivors often hide modern secure shelters amid the carnage as a form of camouflage and disguise. Some remote automated ore production is hidden this way as well. A factory complex looks destroyed, but an active site is hidden below and only operates when no one is looking.

An important local point of pride are the Yebel Research Institutions. They offer accredited academic certification programs, in zero G prospecting, asteroid mining operator’s certificates, zero G combat, zero G weapons training, vacuum suit operation licenses are available from these universities and their branch colleges. Funding is a combination of private, corporate, and state sources to ensure the availability of these vital trade and technical programs.

Governor’s advisory board, has the real economic power, the governor is the military commander in chief and a diplomat. The board members represent all the power blocks and supervise monopolistic corporations which function like governmental bureaus. Their domination in their selected economic niches are so complete as to practically eliminate competition. Lately a series of poor governors have caused civil unrest. This is attributed to their inept, disloyal and unresponsive, policies.

A few highly efficient, large robotic miners, armed with complex arrays of laser weapons, courtesy of local fabrication, wander the system prospecting and mining. Government ore barges, with tiny human crews, prowl their work sites collecting valuable mineral deposits.
