Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Wyn is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Wyn has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world. The atmosphere contains levels of Carbon-Dioxide that allow the planet to be habitable (through Greenhouse effect) given the rather large distance from the central star. A standard atmosphere mix would see the world temperature nearly 40 degrees cooler. Filters to block CO2 are mandatory.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Wyn has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Flora[edit]

Wyn's native flora is one of the more varied in the subsector, and despite the great age of the planet, has yet to grow much taller than 10cm high. Likened to the lichens and mosses of Sol, the plant life on Wyn covers the ground wherever it can obtain water from rain, fogs or dews. Although individual plants may not be more than a few centimetres, they form great mounds as each generation forms over the previous one making a pin-cushion look to many of the wetter places.

A few species leach nutrients from bedrock using strong acids to break down the minerals. Flourine-Blue Fahelia generates hydrofluoric acid for this purpose and a patch of this can seriously damage the footwear of those walking across it. It is fortunate that it is very rare.

The acidic nature of the oceans makes the formation of external shells impossible- they would dissolve. There are a number of plankton that form internal skeletons but these do not form massive limestone deposits after their death because of the acidity of the water.

Fauna[edit]

Wyn's native fauna is small. The thin atmosphere makes for relatively low levels of available oxygen and this has limited the size of creatures, none of which have closed circulatory systems. That is not to say that the creatures don't appear large. Colonies are part of a number of groups within the fauna and the land-sponges that cross the plains can be over a cubic metre in volume. Because of the colony nature of these life-forms, it can be difficult to exclude them from places (houses, etc) as they can pass through very small holes. They can be broken into parts and the colony will re-group. Mostly they cannot climb faces at a slope of more than 100 degrees or pile up more than 30cm high and thus solid barriers with overhangs are generally an effective obstruction.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Culture[edit]

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]

Wyn, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

The Nobles of Wyn had been evacuated by 61st Fleet by 1136.

World Starport[edit]

1105[edit]

Wyn has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld. n.b. After 1136, the starport was officially rated "E", but minor repairs could still be found from local businesses normally working on agricultural machinery.

1200[edit]

Wyn has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Government[edit]

Note that between 1140 and 1200 the world was raided by Red Pelts, other Vargr, 61st Fleet and Virus. The democratic representatives were wiped out many times, but the bureaucracy somehow maintained its continuity. This significantly shifted the balance of power between the Politicians and the Administrators.

1105[edit]

Wyn is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

1200[edit]

Wyn is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.

World Law Level[edit]

1105[edit]

Wyn has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

1200[edit]

Wyn has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

World Technology[edit]

1105[edit]

Wyn possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

1200[edit]

Wyn possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.

World Economy[edit]

Wyn has a poor quality grain-like plant that, it has been discovered, makes an alcohol when fermented. The liquor (Wynrum) is cheap but cheerful. The resulting mash is fine for animal feed when dried and the Goat has been introduced as a meat source.[2]

World Demographics[edit]

1105[edit]

Wyn has a population of 10,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Approx 70,000

1200[edit]

Historical Data[edit]

Abandonment[edit]

The planning for the Abandonment of Wyn started in 1133 and the planet's population was lifted by the 61st Fleet in a period of 28 weeks in 1136. About 70% of the population chose to leave. Various captains of the Dzarrgh Federate seeking to flee the approaching Virus attempted to create a safe-haven on Wyn and some neighbouring worlds that they called the Aegzagangnthoegngvang. This partly re-populated the world with Aekhu Vargr and their human slaves from Corridor. This ultimately did not work because their ships were drawn back into Corridor Sector to oppose the Vampire Fleets arrival and various interests allied with the United Followers of Augurgh sought to prevent the creation of any new state in the power vacuum that had appeared in Million Subsector[2].
