Urgung supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. This is a temperate world, with a climate of average temperatures. It is a member of Democracy of Greats in the Elkhaghaza Subsector of Knoellighz Sector.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Both Rurzsik and Urgung (Knoellighz 2611 and 2614 respectively) present the same UWP of B998310-B with very subtle differences even in the face of their twin Trade Codes of Ga (Garden World) and Lo (Low Population). Upon second survey of each world by explorers of the Democracy of Greats and analysis of their attributes, it was concluded each could be a home to the kurrllo, or radiate bison in Galanglic, a special herd beast ranched by the Vargr of this polity.

Rurzsik and Urgung are found in Elkhaghaza Subsector of Knoellighz Sector. Their differences lie in stellar and system features. Rurzsik has a F2 V solar primary, no Gas Giants and is without planetoid belts. Urgung puts forth both a K0 V solar primary and a captured White Dwarf. Additionally, Urgung boasts a single Gas Giant but is also lacking any planetoid belts. Both worlds are worthless to belters and asteroid mining operations as Urgung’s Giant has no ice rings. Other slight differences are almost too miniscule to have been included in both survey reports to the offices of two Charismatic Greats of the Democracy of Greats. These differences lie in surface gravity, atmospheric pressure, climate, distance from their respective solar primaries, and crust mineral content, (neither of which are remarkable).

The kurrllo was discovered on Urgung and after the first survey was compared to the second survey, the species was carefully transplanted initially as an experiment to Rurzsik. The duplication of herds there was successful and reported. Both worlds supported the species and there were many congratulations among biologists and ecologists of the subsector.

Both Rurzsik and Urgung were green-lighted for B-rated Highports after the news spread throughout Elkhaghaza and the two Jump-1 mains to the delight of both Charismatic Greats in each main. This discovery was a breadbasket of ranching and food production in the making, without the hassle of meeting an Ag (Agricultural World) Trade Code rating and its accompanying red tape and bureaucracy. All spaceships and starships are forbidden to land on both mainworlds. Smallcraft and aerospace vehicles are permitted to land but only at mapped and demarcated zones. Waterborne craft are free to ply the seas and conduct what little fishing operations they can.

Products of the kurrllo and the miniscule fishing industries are then transported up to orbit for due processing, packaging, marketing, sale and transport to the polity’s buyers. Poaching security is provided by frequent Naval visits from Angaerrgzorrfuer (Knoellighz 2615). Poaching on either Rurzsik or Urgung is punishable by immediate, on-the-spot death. Poaching or safari ships are seized as possible and sold to further the needs of both worlds subject to probate court on an individual basis.

Question of Jurisdiction and Authority[edit]

In 1095, a court battle was conducted and covered by news networks transmitting the proceedings to nearly the entire polity. It was yet another of many clashes between Charismatic Greats. The question was raised as to which Charismatic Great held authority and rule over both Rurzsik and Urgung. On one side both worlds were members of the same Jump-1 main headquartered in Ourdzoeg Subsector and the Great there felt the two worlds should reside under rule of Great out of Negarrghoeoegong (Knoellighz 2510). The other side of the case argued that both Rurzsik and Urgung fell within the boundaries of Elkaghaza subsector and thus were the purview of the mobile Great whose office was on Adhaeoe (Knoellighz 2517). After presenting their cases, (more akin to heated shouting matches in the proceedings and garnering heightened network viewership), the courts ruled in favor of a compromise solution brought to them from outside the courtroom to the resentment of the two parties. The courts appointed a corporation a lease from both parties to ranch, process meat, dairy, leather, horn, bone and fur goods to be sold, to the profit to the corporation, to each subsector. The courtroom almost came to Infighting teeth and claws were it not for armed Vargr present. Profits from the ranching and minor fishing industry would cover overhead, repay investors, dividends to go to corporation board members and pay employees. The solution fed both subsectors to the delight of citizens and world administrators. Shipping was relegated to a fourth party corporation. Security against poaching was taken up by volunteer Naval assets from Angaerrgzorrfuer willing to patrol both worlds in addition to visits from the Charismatic Great’s navy from Ourdzoeg.

At 1105, the deal among all parties finally produced positive and rising numbers to yield profits in the second quarter to the relief of the corporation and its logistics partner. This cooperative of Greats and two corporate entities has been one of the very few successes between state and corporations in the Democracy of Greats.

Kurrllo[edit]

The kurrllo, or radiate bison so named for its three pairs of radial, cranial horns, is a native of Urgung and transplant to Rurzsik as an experiment in biosphere compatibility between both worlds. The creature is a herd herbivore that feeds on grasses, weeds, tree leaves and both worlds’ brands of watery and succulent fruits. The radiate bison has four legs ending in wide, cloven hooves and a long, dragging tail. The entire bulk of the beast is covered in a shaggy, yet soft to the touch, fur hide. Six gazelle-like horns radiate outward from its cranium and can be used for battering or goring predators or mating competition. Under the dense and tainted atmospheres of both Urgung and Rurzsik, this animal is capable of both filtration of the harmful compounds and has a low enough metabolism to tolerate the dense pressure to breathe. Capable of short bursts of speed to chase down unwary and intruding Vargr, the radiate bison can kill with a single charge of its massive body.

Because of its lowered and very efficient metabolism, the kurrllo uses less plant sugars than it bodily consumes through grazing. Huge tracts of open land or sparse forest are its chosen diet. Females thus produce naturally sweet milk to calves. This milk is a now a Vargr delicacy and can be included in alcoholic drinks or served to minor as a virgin drink. Because herds are very large, both entire mainworlds have been declared ranching reserves with minimal Vargr presence except to cull for food and goods.

With dense bones, horns and a tough hide, many goods of clothing, accessories and small furniture are fashioned from the radiate bison. Musical instruments, ceremonial weapons, canes and staves are prime products by artisans using the best specimen parts of the kurrllo. A single radiate bison can sell for up to 20,000Cr per head. An adult can feed an entire family for a month, (or more if they vary their diet with the fish from these worlds).

Free Labor[edit]

Ranching employees are occasionally sent free labor, prisoners on probation from the penal world of Oukughoell (Knoellighz 2613) on the condition of their best behavior. Many prisoners rehabilitate to a new life in ranching rather than return to the mines of Oukughoell. Prisoner transfers are delivered by Naval transports and each applicant is vetted as best possible before allowed to work on either Urgung or Rurzsik for the remainder of their sentences. A few prisoners per year finish their sentences to hire on with the administrative corporation for pay.
