Union of Meizirn
The Union of Meizirn is a trade and mutual defense alliance established in the late 450s in the Meizirn Subsector. Non-aligned, and preferring to exploit its strategic location, the Union attracts a good deal of trade. The central government is weak and ineffectual, and local planetary authorities are susceptible to corruption and bribery by smugglers and pirates. Quarantine regulations are barely observed here, despite the threat of Regency or Corellan sanction. The Union is at one end of the Gold Road of Regency trade connections that lead back to the "Rand", Five Sisters and Plankwell Subsectors. Consequently, as long as this trade continues to fill the Union's coffers, and benefit the Regency, no incentive exists to clean up local government.
