Era: New Era

Twinian is an icy vacuum world with little or no atmosphere and a significant quantity of water frozen on the surface. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Regency of Deneb in the Namidshur Subsector of Deneb Sector and in the Regency Frontier. This world contains a Regency Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

Description (Planetology)[edit]

Twinian is a massive chunk of nickel-iron, mixed in with a variety of other metals. Planetologists think that this eccentrically orbiting rock is actually a bizarre instance of accretion of Oort cloud material that occurred early in the system's formation. The world is located about 120 AUs from its primary star, in a retrograde orbit.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Before 628 Twinian was a verdant world with a human population in the millions, most of whom came from the Atsah Subsector.

  • However, its atmosphere was blown away by orbital nuclear bombardment during Deneb's Bad War.

The local "rock" is 55% pure metal ore, but is extremely heterogeneous in composition. Mining is highly specialized, with different companies extracting different materials for different purposes. Hence one company may only be interested in nickel-iron, but may hire another company to extract any chromium ore it finds in its current mining area. The world is owned in common by all of the local companies, which are contractually obligated to fair play and equal access to mineral finds. Weapons are illegal, and mining personnel from one company may only enter another territory with special permission.

Because of its mineral resource value, the world could not be abandoned entirely, and the Regency beefed up the local scout base with additional units. Many ore freighters making the run from Zinuun (Deneb 2014) are specially armed with laser and missile barbettes, and local planetary "navy" is not wont to ask questions to intruding ships.
