It is important to note the following data, which was previously under "notes":

  • What system or subsystem the star is part of. Trinaries tend to have a binary pair in a system and a tertiary star in a subsystem.
  • The relationship of the star to the primary. These are often noted as "close companion" and "far companion".
  • Whether the relationship is subordinate, equal or dominant. This determines the gravitic barycenter, which is important for understanding the relationship.

Multiple star systems above three stars (quaternary-4, quiniary-5, etc.) are relatively rare. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 09:16, 18 May 2015 (EDT)
Of course, in a universe with stars beyond count in practical terms, "relatively rare" can still account for dozens, hundreds, or perhaps thousands of such multiple stars within just one average to larger-sized galaxy. Something to think about... Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 09:16, 18 May 2015 (EDT)


This was a 1 minute template creation effort, so thank you for your feedback. I've updated the template to include the notes column. Once this works to your satisfaction I'll create the TrinaryStarSystem template. The limit will be four, as that is the limit of every stellar creation system provided since Book 6.
