Tarija is a vacuum world, with a complete lack of atmosphere. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. The governance of this world is from Bolivar (Dagudashaag 0240). This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Bolivar Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Tarija, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Dalaza.

History and background

Tarija is a declining mining outpost on the outer edge of the Tarija system. Established around the time of the initial colonization of Bolivar in -2,125. Tarija was still a reasonably important source of raw materials, and profit. During the Long Night the base was effectively shut down. With the re-expansion in trade and travel that heralded the beginning of the Third Imperium the base was reopened. New mining techniques and the need for a base closer to the heart of the new Imperium saw Tarija's fortunes wax once again.

The last of the ores worth extracting were mined out by the turn of the millennium and the need for a transport depot has diminished. The population has dropped by half since 1010. The recent rumors that Camrii-La Paz Pan-American Industrial Consortium (CLiP) are to pull out from Tarija altogether will further undermine the shaky economy.
