Shimaraak is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Saregon Subsector of Core Sector in the Domain of Sylea.

It is the homeworld of the Ssienjhiovla, a species of mollusc-like omnivorous sophonts.

Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]

Shimaraak has few mountain ranges but its shallow oceans are rich in high-grade metals and rare-earth minerals.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The industrial worlds of Saregon Subsector are eager to exploit this palnet's untapped resources, but the IISS acquired a proclamation from the Emperor that denies them access. The scouts would like to interdict the system, but the highly social Ssienjhiovla requested that they refrain from that extreme measure.

While there is no scout base on Shimaraak, the scouts visit often and watch over the world.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Shimaraak has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

The Ssienjhiovla population is not recorded but is in the hundreds of millions. The listed Human population is 80,000.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Shimaraak possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Shimaraak is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.

World Law (L)[edit]

Shimaraak has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Languages[edit]

The primary mode of communication for Ssienjhiovla is the excretion of various gases and pheromones, detectable from a range of up to five kilometres. When in proximity, they also gesticulate with their arms and fingers to convey complex thoughts and feelings. Devices similar to those used by the Hivers are used to let Ssienjhiovla communicate audibly with Humans.
