Salif is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Sindal Subsector of Trojan Reach Sector.

The jump-3 transit across the Sindal Subsector normally goes via Vume and Salif, then on to Tyr in Dpres Subsector. However, relatively few vessels make this run due to the expense of maintaining jump-3 trade, and the dangers associated with transiting through the central worlds.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Salif, under a different name, became one of the founding worlds of the Sindalian Empire when it joined into a mutual defense pact with nearby Noricum.
Salif is a hazardous rocky planetoid, notable for being tidally locked so that the same side always faces the system's primary. The population live in the thin twilight area between total brightness and blackest night. Salif does not offer any emergency services to those that venture to explore or exploit the primary side of the planet. Some industries do take advantage of the dark side for minor industry and mining. The Very Thin, Tainted atmosphere makes farming difficult and limited to enclosed greenhouses. For the relatively moderate population of millions of Sophonts there are adequate supplies of lake and frozen water.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Salif has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Governance[edit]
- Pritchard I, Duke of Salif, lost a power struggle against the reigning Sindalian Emperor in -1520. Fleeing with a small retinue, the Duke settled on the world he renamed after himself.
- The Royal Court long insisted that the current Pritchard -- one of a lengthy inbred line -- was the rightful ruler of the long dead Sindalian Empire, and not only demanded that offworlders acknowledge this 'fact' but that they supply starships and weapons to assist the Royal Guard in launching an attack on the world of Noricum (Old Sindal), so that Pritchard could take his rightful place on the throne. No trader found a way to actually profit from these delusions of grandeur.
- Salif is currently supporting a charismatic leader and former holostar performer, Tisnee Zazzle, who overthrew the old system. She promotes happiness, the simple life, kindness to all and promises of more living space -- often through song.
- Zazzle maintains her youth through expensive anagathics.
- Salif is patrolled by a small fleet of system defense boats and Fighters. The Light traffic in and out of the system barely keeps the High Port operating.
Law[edit]
The modest Law Level limits Sophonts to blades, shotguns and stun weapons; those found in possession of more lively weaponry may find themselves fined, jailed or banned from the system.
