System Data[edit]

Alsana-Sal Marda System[edit]

The primary is Alsana, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 7.18 Sols, a mass of 1.62 Sols, and a diameter of 2.282 million km. The inner system consists of (II-I) a vacuum inner world, (II-II) a trace atmosphere inner world, (III) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (IV) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (V) Sal Marda, designated the mainworld – orbital position (I) is empty. (VI) a sparse stony planetoid belt lies within the habitable zone. (VII) a ringed large gas giant, (VIII-I) a small gas giant, and (VIII-II) a ringed small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Tasca Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Tasca, a red subdwarf star that lies approximately 2,730 AU from Alsana. It has a luminosity of 0.0038 Sols, a mass of 0.114 Sols, and a diameter of 167,000 km. (I) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (II) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III) a small gas giant, and (IV) a small ice giant form the outer system. Most of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(V) Sal Marda[edit]

(V) Sal Marda is designated the mainworld. It orbits Alsana at a mean distance of 1.72 AU (257.3 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 1 year 282 days and a rotation period of 43 hours. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Sal Marda has a diameter of 7,823 km, a density of 4.64 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.52 G. The world is geologically inert. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.92 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N2), 18% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 2% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 64°C. The climate is rated as Very Hot and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and powerful weather systems driven by the star surge across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 192 million km², Land surface area: 188 million km², Water surface area: 4 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Alsana-Sal Marda System[edit]

Sal Marda, the mainworld, has primitive native life, consisting almost entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Tasca Subsystem[edit]

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World starport[edit]

Sal Marda has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Sal Marda possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government[edit]

Sal Marda is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

Historical Data[edit]

Sal Marda was the regional headquarters of Far Rim Mining, part of the Rimward Opportunities Development Organization.

The class A starport was destroyed in 5341AD, falling from orbit and leaving a huge scar on the surface of the world. The cause of its destruction has never been determined, but is considered most likely to be a deliberate act of terrorism. It has never been rebuilt.

When Far Rim Mining collapsed as an organisation the world was systematically stripped of almost of its infrastructure and assets, leaving a huge displaced population. The demolition of the world was nearly complete and the local technological base utterly crashed. The asset-stripping was resisted in many locations and led to a great deal of violence, with thousands of casualties on both sides.
