History & Background[edit]

The planet Saffron, or New Saffron as it used to be called, is a private research facility owned by Saffron Tech, subsidized heavily by Imperial coffers. Saffron Tech is headed up by Professor Bej Siwel, one of the Imperium's foremost scientists. Corporate visitors will be well served by the excellent starport, and will be unaware of the Imperial Navy ships in orbit. The Navy maintains a presence at Saffron to thwart untoward attempts by outsiders to obtain the advanced technology available on the planet.

Until 1099, only high ranking military officials and the Emperor himself were aware that Saffron was under the indirect control of the Imperium, via the back door subsidy that Saffron Tech received from it. Professor Siwel and all at Saffron Tech were also unaware that the Imperium had designated it as an Imperial Research Station -- designation; Lambda-3. Siwel's assistant Marla Gray was revealed, by an undercover INDISS Reporter, to be an Imperial agent. INDISS uncovered that the Imperium was considering taking over the facility and using their scientific discoveries for military applications. When the truth of the Imperium's involvement was uncovered, Saffron Tech managed to arrange for the Imperium to back out while maintaining its core funding. Public opinion was such that they also agreed that Saf-Tech discoveries in future would only be used in non-military applications.

Since then, Saffron has made a deal with Naasirka to develop some of their research for civilian use.

World Starport[edit]

Saffron has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Saffron possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

World Government[edit]

Saffron is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
