The S-223 Moon Raven class Covert Surveillance Scout was originally an TL–13 auxiliary warship: it is now more commonly seen as a commercial transport.

Description

The S-223 Moon Raven class Covert Surveillance Scout was originally designed as an experimental long range scout vessel. It was developed for a military bid and competition. The design prototype made it through several rounds of trials and test flights. Eventually, it came to two designs, the other design lacks several of this design's special features. However, it was from a trusted ship building company with a proven track record. After a special promotional tour to the pleasure moons of Sigma Fulroomi Denko, the deal was signed and this design’s fate was sealed. The prototype sat in a hangar for several months. Eventually a resourceful military logistics officer acquired the ship through obscure means and undertook some black ops on the behalf of a grateful, but quiet government. Officially under private charter service on loan from the boatyard, the government intelligence community paid generously for the ship’s use. Eventually its legendary exploits proved too much. A few retired operators wrote best-selling media releases. Several more of the design were built. Like a lucky charm, every, would be spec ops group had to have one. It is constructed as a long-range design.

The hull is fully streamlined, giving a excellent atmospheric performance largely reliant on its lifting wings and fuselage and the powerful onboard gravitic systems. x2 primary airlocks and x4 secondary service airlocks are located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors. The configuration of the hull excels at surface landings with the use of landing gear and is runway capable. It has glide slope abilities.
2.	Crew	x10 personnel: x1 Pilot, x1 Navigator, x3 Engineers, x1 Medic, x4 Gunners Accommodations There are 10 staterooms. Single occupancy accommodations are available for all. Double occupancy effectively doubles of the ship’s capacity for transporting special forces operators. The cryo section contains 3 emergency lowberths. These are used if the vessel becomes stranded and the crew must wait for rescue. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Cobalt Dynamics Jump 4 drive, Four Magnum Flow Reactionless 1G drives, and a Power Plant-4, giving performance of Jump-4 and 4G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 0 and an emergency agility of 4. It is a long-range design: the internal fuel tankage is sufficient for a single jump 4, with drop tanks for an additional jump 4 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is an efficient Model/7 computer: no backup computer is installed. There are multiple holo-dynamically reconfigurable Workstations. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an extensive passive and active EMS sensor arrays, and an avionics suite, with terrain following abilities. Vessels in military service have advanced sensors and are fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. They have system range laser, maser, and radio communication systems. 6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out is: x1 Triple Missile turret, a single Factor-3 battery. x1 Double Pulse Laser turret, a pair of Factor-2 batteries. x1 Single Fusion Gun turret, a single Factor-4 battery.
7.	Defenses	None.
8.	Craft	Flight Section x1 3 dton Air Raft The S-223 Moon Raven class Covert Surveillance Scout usually carries a small Grav APC for the direct action team to deploy and ex-filtrate. The vehicle is housed in a dedicated hanger. Some commercial vessels sell off surplus subcraft, with hanger space generally being converted into auxiliary cargo holds.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 132 dTons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew. Droptanks Examples of the class in military service are routinely fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional Jump-4 for extended range operations.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel, complete without the subcraft, is MCr276.71. The vessel and its subcraft are standard designs. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and no design fee is chargeable. If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr221.368 (not including subcraft).
11.	Construction Time	56 weeks individually. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 12.0 dTons.

History & Background

This vessel was designed and built in a failed attempt to secure a lucrative naval contract they fell off the RADAR so to speak. Defenseless, they rely on their speed to escape. The powerful computers come from a series of near AI, noted for the dry sarcastic tone. Some crew think they are unintentionally, hysterical. The ship is highly autonomous and actively helps crew whenever possible. Some versions carried advanced robots which were literal hands and eyes for the ship.

The modular cargo bay was always subject to mission specific payload packages which varied wildly over the operational life of the ships in service. The front companies for these operators typically had some sort of tongue in cheek, gallows humorous names. As if they were not trying too hard. After it became widely known what they were and what they were for, trios of scouts retiring, could trade in their ship shares and pool resources to get one of these matte black beauties. The titanium and molybdenum hulls are famous. They are never painted. Markings and decals tend to be muted, even in civilian use. Crews usually affect sunglasses and ear-piece comms just to maintain the charade.
