Poil is a nonindustrial, pre-rich water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It still lacks adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
  • Its economy is growing and living conditions are expected to rise in the near future barring outside forces.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Paradise Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data[edit]

Chord-Poil System[edit]

The primary is Chord, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 4.42 Sols, a mass of 1.38 Sols, and a diameter of 2.031 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a very thin atmosphere inner world, (III) a dense atmosphere stormworld, and (IV) Poil, designated the mainworld. (V) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world orbits within the habitable zone. (VI) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VII) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (VIII) a large gas giant, (IX) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (X) a ringed large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(IV) Poil[edit]

(IV) Poil is designated the mainworld. It orbits Chord at a mean distance of 0.94 AU (140.7 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 283 days 9 hours and a rotation period of 23 hours. The axial tilt is 17 degrees. Poil has a diameter of 14,045 km, a density of 5.61 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.12 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.04 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 99.7% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1.3m. Mean surface temperature: 8°C. The atmosphere is very active and violent weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites[edit]

Poil retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Yarin and a corrosive atmosphere inferno world named Pilus:

(Va) Yarin (UWP Y300000-0, orbiting at 30 Diameters/422,000 km)
(Vb) Pilus (UWP Y5B0000-0, orbiting at 55 Diameters/773,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography[edit]

Total surface area: 620 million km², Land surface area: 601 million km², Water surface area: 19 million km².

Native lifeforms[edit]

Poil, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Poil has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Poil possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government[edit]

Poil is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
