Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Ngath Confederation is a Vargr polity polity lying within Windhorn Sector, on the rimward edge of the Vargr Extents.

It lies at the conjunction of three major regional trade routes, the Kanae-Figorurzaz Trade Run, the Vedhaaez Cluster, and the Vilani Main.

  • Despite the polities relatively low level of development and large number of less advanced worlds, it sees a considerable amount of interstellar trade.
  • The taxes, tributes, and protection money that the state demands from mercantile interests yields considerable riches.

The state maintains the Ngath Confederate Space Navy, which primarily serves in a policing role.

Vedhaaez, in Aekhgal Subsector, is the capital of the Confederation.

Governance[edit]

The Confederation is primarily a trade protectorate.

Astrography[edit]

A number of astrographic features define the polity:

The Windhorn Rift[edit]

The Confederation's coreward border follows the edge of the Windhorn Rift.

  • The rift hinders travel and commerce across the region.

The Kanae-Figorurzaz Trade Run[edit]

The heart of the Confederation is the Kanae-Figorurzaz Trade Run, a small Main that has 28 member worlds.

  • Figorurzaz is marked in orange.

The Vedhaaez Cluster[edit]

The Vedhaaez Cluster is a trade route running between Corridor Sector, Vland Sector, and Windhorn Sector. It is a small Main.

  • It has 39 member systems.

  • Worlds lying on the Main are highlighted in tan.
  • Vedhaaez, the namesake of the cluster and the capital of the Confederation, is marked in red.

The Vilani Main[edit]

The Vilani Main, the mighty trade artery of the Ziru Sirka, has its coreward terminus within the Confederation.

  • High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move along the Main, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

The worlds of the Confederation were originally members of the Ziru Sirka and saw settlement during the era, being under the dominion of the Naasirka bureaux.

During the Ziru Sirka the region had billions of human inhabitants and its worlds were generally more advanced than today.

  • Many Confederation worlds have Ziru Sirka-era ruins and remains on their surfaces.

The territory the Confederation now controls was overrun by the Vargr during the Long Night and continues to be Vargr-dominated into the present day.

The Confederation is the latest of a number of relatively short-lived polities to control the region

Vargr Corsairs[edit]

Large numbers of Corsairs base themselves within the Confederation. Corsair activity is strictly controlled by the state in order to facilitate the ongoing (and extremely lucrative) trade along the Mains that dominate the polity.

  • Occasionally, however, the temptation is too great and some individual ships or groups "go rogue", operating beyond the limits the Confederation places on them.

These disparate bands can pose a considerable risk to interstellar trade and commerce within the sector.

  • Corsairs can generally be negotiated with and often accept tribute in return for safe passage through their territory.
  • Vessels and crews are advised to travel armed and ready to defend themselves.

Ngath Confederate Space Navy[edit]

The Ngath Confederate Space Navy polices the various active corsair bands and provides defence when necessary.

It is well funded by taxes and tithes gathered from merchant vessels working their way along the various trade routes within the Confederation's territory.

It claims ancient origins, with its supposed founding occurring in -1862 and its existence, in some form or another and under different titles, continuing until the present day.

  • Almost all historians and non-partizan authorities dispute this.

Demographics[edit]

The total population of the Confederation is estimated at 93 billion sophonts.

Rebellion Period[edit]

From 1116 to 1120, there were no effective raids from Confederation territory into the New Ziru Sirka[1][2]. With little hinterland because of the Windhorn Rift and a strong policy of suppressing corsairs [3] the state had no power to do so. By 1123, the other pressures on the Confederation arising from the success of other raiders saw this policy start to be relaxed (before it fell apart)[4] - with the result that the safe zone for the New Ziru Sirka had been pushed back into its home subsector by 1125[5].

This period ended with the arrival of Virus-infected Ships and fleets from late 1132/early 1133 onwards.
