Nereus is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a part of the Third Reformed French Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation, located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • This world has a nearby Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
  • This world has a nearby Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
  • About 60% of the population is composed of baseline Solomani humans and other non-human sophonts.
  • About 40% of the population is composed of Dolphins.

System Data[edit]

Nereus is a binary system, with the smaller M3 star orbiting the bright F3 primary at a relatively close 200AU distance.

This arrangement seems to have precluded the formation of either Gas Giants or planetoid belts.

There are however a total of 8 rocky worlds scattered through this expanse, across both systems.

Units

  • Orbit is in AU or planetary radii for satellites
  • Diam = diameter in miles (X 1.609 for km)
  • Dens = average density in g/cc
  • Grav = 'surface' gravity in G's
  • Rot/Rev = rotation or revolution period in hours (h), days (d), or years (y) ; tl = tide-locked
  • e = orbital eccentricity
  • Type = G:Space/FI classification

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld Nereus is a water world, with several large and strong storms in motion at any given time. There are small permanent ice caps on both poles, which offer potential emergency landing zones.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

The mainworld Nereus is a water world, with a single archipelago chain above water.

Below the ocean surface lie several undersea mountain ranges, which delineate the tectonic plate structures.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

The sea provides a wide variety of lifeforms in the shallower regions, with the deeper areas providing simpler forms. Presumably, this distribution is the result of the strong sunlight frequencies produced by the F3 primary star.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

World Starport[edit]

Nereus has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Nereus possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Nereus is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are young governments, coming as a recent change and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

World Law Level[edit]

Nereus has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military[edit]

As a core-world of the Republic, this system hosts both a sizable Naval base and Army-Marine Military base.

A small wet Navy is maintained with both surface and submerged elements.

World Economy[edit]

Trade Data[edit]

World Demographics[edit]

Humanity 60%

Dolphin 40%

World Culture[edit]

Nereus culture is a terrestrial-marine symbiote.

Humaniti and Dolphin citizens work and live together at all levels of life, including education, exploration, consumerism, and mining. Naturally, both species have had to adapt to each others proclivities, which leads to an unusual way of life and interaction. Visitors often find themselves in the position of an outsider looking in, as a result.

The current Governor is a dolphonic male, callsign "Orotos". (Whistle-signature on file) Vice-governor is human female, Katerita Mercatus. The pair work together well, and work to maintain world stability.

Urbanization[edit]

There are traditional terrestrial urban centers on some of the archipelago's islands, but these are designed such that they transition into marine-friendly and undersea areas. Also, there are wide waterways inland that allow dolphin citizens access to otherwise terrestrial zones.
