Martial Art
A form of exercise derived from or forming a codified style of physical combat
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Martial Arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practiced for a number of reasons such as self-defense; military and law enforcement applications; competition; physical, mental, and spiritual development; entertainment; and the preservation of a nation's intangible cultural heritage.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
A Martial Art may be practiced for the purposes of Combat, Physical Health or Spiritual Wellbeing. These various focuses will change over time - by definition each Martial Art will have its institution in some form of self-defence, but once the social conditions that required such a combative response alter, the other reasons come to the fore.
Various forms of Martial Art are found in Human, Aslan and Vargr societies. Droyne Warrior Caste combat techniques do not appear to be taught as a tradition and neither K'Kree nor Hiver societies view combat as an art form.
Various minor races (but not all) have developed similar concepts.
