The Last Armada class Scout is a TL–11 Scout Vessel.

Description

The Scout is a historical design produced in the Terran Confederation during the early 22nd century. These ships took part in the desperate exodus following the Destruction of Terra at the hands of the Vilani Imperium in 2147AD, forming a part of the Last Armada and carrying with them the last remnants of Terran culture and independence. The class were extremely sturdy and reliable and endured more than a century of spaceflight. They ultimately found and settled the Demon Cluster, the Distant Fringe. The vessel is constructed as a long-range design and has extended range capability.

It has a crew of 6.

1.	Tonnage / Hull	The Scout is constructed using a 200 Ton hull built in a generally Flattened Sphere configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving excellent atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its on-board gravitic systems. There are two airlocks. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x6 personnel. captain/pilot, 2x engineers, 1x medic/science officer, and 2x gunners/damage control experts. Accommodations There are 3 Staterooms. All quarters are double occupancy. There are 2 Low Berths, either allowing for extra crew to share and rotate duties over a long voyage, or for use emergencies. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-5 drive, and a Power Plant-5, giving performance of Jump-2 and 5-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 5. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-2s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 computer: no backup computer is installed. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x2 hardpoints. The listed weapons are standard for the class. Alternative weaponry may be designated for specific missions.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Scout is: x1 triple Beam Laser turret, forming its own battery. x1 triple Missile turret, forming its own battery.
7.	Defenses	The hull is unarmored. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	The vessel carries no subcraft.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 90 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew. Droptanks Examples of the class are fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump-2.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr182.344 Architects Fee: MCr1.823
11.	Construction Time	48 weeks (11 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	The vessel does not have a cargo hold.

History & Background

Scouts operating with the Last Armada would be dispatched to recon surrounding systems along the fleet's projected path of advance. They performed reconnaissance, searching for fuel sources and assessing potential threats. As a result they occasionally became unintentional first contact vessels. To this day, some Sophont species with their homeworlds lying to rimward of Terra have "UFO" stories that can in all probability be traced back to these ships. Vessels of this type are known to have explored the Cauldron Nebula, within Cauldron Sector.

In rift areas Scouts were used to search for potential fuel sources such as orphan comets or icy-dusty nebular materials. These could be condensed and refined for use by the fleet.
