Koirola is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Shukhuarmiushruu Subsector of Verge Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Koirola is a binary star system.

  • Both are red main sequence stars.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Koirola is a Twilight Zone World.[2]

  • It experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the primary star to move in the sky.

Water World Shore 07h.jpg

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Koirola is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Koirola has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Koirola has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

  • The dark side of the world is covered in an unstable floating crust of pack ice and icebergs.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Koirola was never a member of the Ziru Sirka and was not governed by the Rule of Man.

Despite lying around 11 parsecs from the nearest non-rift Imperial world, Koirola is a full member of the Imperium.

A contender for the most remote world to claim Imperial membership, Koirola sits at the end of the long chain of worlds strung out into the Great Rift. Arguably, it sits beyond that chain, as only one other system is within six parsecs of it, and that world, Bledarua, is more than six parsecs from anywhere else.

Koirola is tidally locked to its primary, despite the efforts of the dim companion star, but is one of those rare locked worlds with just the right orbit to produce an almost livable twilight ring. A narrow band of land and salty sea flirting with the sun lit edge of twilight is relatively comfortable in the lower valleys where the twilight winds don't often reach and the air is just thick enough to conduct agriculture. The population of roughly 200,000 lives fairly well despite their isolation. They do see occasional visitors from the Imperium, looking for the exposed ores and exotic evaporites of the sunny side and bringing welcome infusions of Imperial technology. The port, such as it is, sits on the sun lit face near the current mine and quarry operations, but will move when the mining operation does. The rest of the populace lurks in small communities in the twilight zone or along the cold road on the night side to the purposely remote estate of the Imperial Knight Resident.[3]

World Starport (St)[edit]

Koirola has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Koirola has a population of 100,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Koirola possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Koirola is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.

World Law (L)[edit]

Koirola has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]

Koirola, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -3 (very unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: 2 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 2 (very xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 2 (typical)
  • Symbols: 5 (concrete)
