Gorine is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It is a member of the Worlds of The Leader in the Arodir Subsector of Far Home Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

Chisholm-Gorine System[edit]
The primary is Chisholm, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I-I) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (I-II) Gorine, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II-I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (II-II) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (III) a large gas giant, and (IV) a ringed large gas giant form the inner part of the outer system. Orbital positions (V) through (X) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (XI) a sparse icy planetoid belt orbits the system's barycenter and forms the outer part of the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
- The star experiences periodic flare activity.
- All of the worlds in the system have eccentric orbits that correspond to the relative position of Darley, the companion star.
Darley Subsystem[edit]
The companion is Darley, a tiny dwarf star lying approximately 11.5 AU (orbital position (VIII), 1.72 billion km) from Chisholm. It has a luminosity of 0.00003 Sols, a mass of 1.11 Sols, and a diameter of 8,450 km. (I-I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (I-II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (II-I) a small gas giant, and (II-II) a large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
- Chisholm and Darley orbit a barycenter lying at approximately 6.8 AU (orbital position (VII), 1.02 billion km) and have an orbital period around one another of 14 years 60 days.
Mainworld data[edit]
(I-II) Gorine[edit]
(I-II) Gorine is designated the mainworld. It orbits Chisholm at a mean distance of 0.34 AU (50.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 107 days 1 hour: it is tidally locked to Chisholm. The axial tilt is 3 degrees. Gorine has a diameter of 4,850 km, a density of 5.66 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.39 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Chisholm cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.16 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen (N2), 9% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% xenon (Xe), water vapor (H2O), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 10 rads per hour. Approximately 18% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water and sheets of water-ice: average tidal ranges exceed 0.4m. Mean surface temperature: -25°C. The atmosphere is slow and minor weather systems driven by the star and the seas drift across the globe. The climate is rated as Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

- The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.

- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Gorine is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
World Military[edit]
The Legion is newly equipped with a battalion of 48 TL–9 G-64 class Tracked Main Battle Tanks. There is a headquarters and support company, and four tank companies with 12 tanks w/36 crew each, divided into 4 platoons of 3 MBTs each. They were envisioned as a Protected Forces unit but the design fell short.
