Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector is a far off frontier of the Third Imperium, in which:
- Most of space is held by the many small independent powers known as pocket empires.
- The Third Imperium only holds about 12% of the sector in 1105.
- Many astrogators simply call this sector Glimmerdrift Sector or the Glimmerdrift.
Description[edit]
The Glimmerdrift Reaches functions as an Imperial Fringe, a sort of crossroads where Imperials and non-Imperials can trade, conduct talks, and otherwise interact. Several of the major race powers have significant interests in the region:

History & Background[edit]
This sector has a long record of sophont civilization although little of it appears to be connected to the Ancients. However, many other civilizations have left considerable ruins, artifacts, and other remnants of prior peoples. Treasure hunters are known to flock to the area in search of hidden treasures. Several of the older sophont species in the region tell tales of secret caches of starships, technology, and other valuables hidden away in the nebulae and unexplored corners of the sector.
Native Sophonts: 1105[edit]
The following races (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this area:

Politics & Diplomacy (Interstellar Relations)[edit]
Despite the presence of a large number of squabbling pocket empires, the area has achieved an unexpected level of peace and prosperity. Local customs and traditions confine combat to largely ritualized forms sparing local populations from the worst ravages of war. Many fear that as the K’kree expand spinward, they will disrupt this fragile peace. While pirates and corsairs are not uncommon in the region, most trade convoys travel under heavy escort and a major convoy has not been lost in many decades.
Polity Listing: 1105[edit]
The following polities can be found within this sector:
- Independent Powers (Pocket Empires)
- Non-Aligned Powers (World-States)
- Non-Aligned (Human-dominated)
- Other Powers
- Glimmerdrift Alliance

- Various member worlds and systems
The Imperium maintains a ‘zone of interest’ along the sector fringe and regularly sends ships to trade with or show the flag at worlds within 3-4 parsecs of the formal border. There is some friction from time to time, but for the most part the worlds and states close to the Imperial border are accustomed to their status as either clients or independent worlds. Understandings have been developed.

Worlds & Cosmology (Astrography)[edit]
This astrographic region is sparsely populated with a low stellar density. Numerous unchartered worlds are located throughout the region and a very large number of radio-opaque nebulae have long frustrated IISS efforts to better chart the area. The Delphi Rift is a significant barrier to interstellar traffic in the spinward-coreward area of the sector.
