The Gepard class Express Courier is a TL–13 Express Courier.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The vessel has a lifting body hull and a modified wedge hull shape. It can accelerate at 4 G and conduct Jump-4 jumpspace transition. It is equipped with fuel scoops, a small fuel purification plant, and can perform wilderness refueling. It is equipped with a Model/2 fib ship computer, capable sensors, and an extensive military electronic suite.

  • It carries a single triple Beam Laser turret, firing as an independent battery. It also carries a single triple Sandcaster turret as well as light titanium armor plating.
  • There are no subcraft. It does have docking hatches for other craft or ships.
  • There are four crew and no marines. The crew positions are pilot, navigator, medic/gunner, and engineer. The ship is sometimes used to transport small squads of operatives. [1]

1. Tonnage / Hull The Gepard class is constructed using a 200-Ton hull built in a wedge configuration. The hull is a lifting body shape, giving excellent atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by the vessels onboard gravitic systems.
  • Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls.
  • The craft has an airlock located directly aft, between the two maneuver drive units. The cargo hold is accessed by a forward dorsal hatch that serves as a landing ramp.
  • The vessel has sturdy retractable landing legs, allowing surface landings.

There are x2 Low Berths located in the main engineering space.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.
  • There are multiple Emergency Lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump Drive-4, a Maneuver Drive-4 drive and a Power Plant-4, giving performance of Jump-4, 4-G acceleration and producing 8 Energy Points. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 4. The dedicated internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one jump-4 and gives the power plant 2 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section forms the majority of the available internal space and has multiple controls and workstations.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/2 fib computer with specialist upgrades allowing it to support performance of up to Jump-4: the ship does not have a backup computer.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Not long after the end of the Fifth Frontier War, the IISS approached the Naval Architects at Ling-Standard Products about an upgrade to the standard Type-S Scout/Courier. The IISS was seeking an upgrade to the speed in-system as well as the jump range. The IISS wanted to expand the cargo hold from 4.0 tons to 12.0 tons for priority supplies, increase the ability to defend itself by doubling the hardpoints, increase the crew so a steady watch could be maintained and most importantly, veteran scouts wanted a ship that did not smell like roadkill if the air handling filters were not changed regularly. The end result was the Gepard class. [4]

Ling-Standard, along with Clan Severn signed a long-term contract in 1111. The first prototype was launched in Rhylanor by 1112. This design was transmitted to the rest of the LSP network immediately. By 1116, Gepard-class Courier production was in full swing. [5]

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

The ships of this class are named after swift animals (...usually pouncers) from around the Imperium. The ship class, Gepard, is named for a species of pouncer native to the Lamarck (Solomani Rim 3024). The word means "Cheetah" in the ancient German language of the Solomani of Terra. [6]
