The Geonee Cultural Region is an area within the Massilia Sector, made up of nine worlds populated by the Geonee.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Geonee are a strong, independent people and resent the intrusion of the Vilani, Solomani, and others. The area desperately desires more autonomy and the central governments of the mighty empires that have subjugated the Geonee have long repressed these proud peoples.

This independent nature coupled with a very different attitude towards psionics are two of the strongest factors creating rifts between the Geonee and mainstream Imperial culture, if such a thing exists.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]

The Geonee Cultural Region is characterized as having a high degree of centralization, which sets uniform policies that direct the entire multi-system state and disregards local (planetary) differences. The Geonee Cultural Region government is usually classified as a Federal Republic, a form of a Unitary State.

Political disputes from any Geonee core world can be brought before the Meeralo Council, whose decisions are final and binding. The Council is technically only the government of Shiwonee, but has great influence throughout the Cultural Region. It acts as the highest court of appeal; any Geonee can bring their case to the Meeralo Council to be heard, though in practice only the wealthiest can afford to do so.

Theoretically, any married male can be elected to the Council, though in practice all 18 positions are held by nobles. The "married male" requirement is a reflection of the strongly patriarchal cast of Geonee society.

Divisions[edit]

Traditionally, the sub-councils are led by councillors from Shiwonee, but the Duke of Shiwonee is free to name whichever councillor he wishes as head of a particular sub-council.

  • Defence Council: The Geonee Cultural Region funds and trains the Geonee Self Defense Forces, which fall under the authority of the Defence Council.
  • Law Council: The legislative authority. Suggested new and revised interstellar laws are created in the Law Council, which are then ratified by the Meeralo Council before coming into effect. These laws cannot supersede Imperial Law.
  • Technology Council: This council reviews recovered technology and new innovations to ensure suitability for public availability.
  • Colonisation Council: Currently concerned with trade and diplomacy between Geonee worlds. Also oversees governance of Tlasov and technological exchange with the Llyrnians.
  • Finance Council: Responsible for creating and administering the Geonee Cultural Region's annual budget, overseeing expenditure, and distributing funds to governing councils and agencies.
  • ADRAT: The Gradeea Bresaal Adonee Gaal, or 'Association for the Development and Retrieval of Advanced Technology'.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Geonee Cultural Region is rich in Ancient artifacts.

  • The Imperium has verified that artifacts have been recovered from Lagna (Massilia 1029) and Shiwonee (Massilia 1430); the Geonee themselves claim that all eight of their worlds were originally inhabited by the "Geonee"; that is, the Ancients.
  • One interesting point is that all eight systems and the associated ninth system contain extensive asteroid belts.
  • The Geonee claim that these are the remnants of worlds destroyed in the Final War, but most Imperial scientists dispute this, while admitting that the frequency of belts is, statistically speaking, unusually high.
  • The Shiwonee system has three asteroid belts; Shiwonee itself is quite active, seismically, with quakes being common and 44 active volcanoes dotting the globe.

Military & Intelligence (Force Projection)[edit]

Geonee maintain local constabularies and are garrisoned by the Imperial military.
