Galiar is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
  • It is a member of the Unity of Sed in the Cradle Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data[edit]

Borsur-Galiar System[edit]

The primary is Borsur, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 45.6 Sols, a mass of 2.54 Sols and a diameter of 2.36 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a thin atmosphere radworld, (III) a vacuum inner world, (IV) a trace atmosphere inner world, and (V) a dense atmosphere water-covered hospitable world. (VI) Galiar orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a large gas giant, (VIII) a ringed small gas giant, and (IX) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(VI) Galiar[edit]

(VI) Galiar is designated the mainworld. It orbits Borsur at a mean distance of 5.1 AU (763 million km), it has an orbital period of 7 years 82.8 days and a rotation period of 31.4 hours. The axial tilt is 10 degrees. Galiar has a diameter 10,035 km, a density of 4.66 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.66 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.38 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 22% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 68% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 44°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star and the oceans crawl across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite[edit]

Galiar retains a single natural satellite, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Rassal:

(VIa) Rassal (UWP G300000-0, orbiting Galiar at 25 Diameters/251,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography[edit]

Total surface area: 316 million km², Water surface area: 215 million km², Land surface area: 101 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

The very warm water-covered hospitable world lying in orbital position (V) (within the H– region of the inner system) has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Galiar, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World starport[edit]

Galiar has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Galiar possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government[edit]

Galiar is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.

World Military[edit]

Local Defense Forces (approximately 400 personnel).

Unity of Sed militia forces (approximately 3,000 personnel).

  • Resources: 7 (Few)
  • Labor: 3 (Thousands)
