Gakhir has a complete lack of both an atmosphere and any surface water. The system has a population between 10 million and a billion sophonts, with a self-supporting industrial base. This world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Khandi Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Gakhir, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdom of a marquis. Both are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. During the Long Night this world was named Nirkinishi.

Astrography and planetology[edit]

Gakhir is a member of the Sylean Main. The naval base hosts elements of the 206th Fleet.

The planetary navy is unusually large for a system of only 70 million. It is one of the few in the otherwise peaceful Khandi subsector maintaining a high state of readiness. The Gakhir patrol cruisers can often be found operating along side Imperial Navy craft in exercises across the subsector.

History and background[edit]

In 447 this otherwise unremarkable planet was the site of a major lanthanum strike. Although most of the ore was quickly worked out, political power remains with the dozen family owned mining houses. These houses maintain their control through domination of the Prospector's League, the systems only legal political party.

Disputes between the houses are normally settled peacefully, but are in constant competition for commercial advantage. The greatest part of the houses' prospecting and exploration activity has shifted to the colony system of Irlu (Dagudashaag 2415).

Although life for most citizens is sedate and comfortable, the Prospector's League perpetuates the myth of Gakhir as a world of hardy, roving space miners.
