Dudzaz is a high-population, industrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water and a billion or more sophonts in population size.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
  • Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
  • It is a member of the Antares Pact in the Ikdalon Subsector of Mendan Sector, which is part of the Vargr Extents.

System Data[edit]

Dudzaz is one of many worlds orbiting the tired red star the human population refers to as "Prime". The Vargr here do not typically grant their star a name, as it is old, tired, and no longer worthy of much respect.

The system has two obvious parts, as Dudzaz and two of the gas giants have been drawn inward as the star has aged, and now orbit the red star very closely. This has kept Dudzaz from the usual fate of becoming tidally locked to Prime, at least so far, though the world is gradually slowing its rotational speed. The local community of Astrophysicists is divided as to whether the inner gas giant will sweep up Dudzaz as a moon, or eject the world completely, before tidal locking occurs.

The outer system, now separated from the inner worlds by an expanse of empty orbits, comprises the third of the gas giants and a slow procession of rocky and icy worlds with little to offer. All but one orbit beyond the ideal range of maneuver drives, making access problematic.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Dudzaz is a watery world afflicted by lethal smog that was present long before the Vargr arrived. With little exposed land, the local analogs to seaweed dominate the flora near the surface, while a lively and varied population of fish, shelled, scaled, or slimy, live amongst the fronds. Sulfur plays a significant part in the local chemistry of life, and is present in the atmosphere in significant concentrations. By day it turns into a high, brown haze, rendering the surface air unpleasant but breathable. At night, and around the clock in the higher latitudes, the temperature drops and the smog precipitates out. The night air at the surface includes enough sulfur compounds to promote retching at best and persistent lung damage in the worst cases.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Only a few significant islands exist, and most are low. The cities here emulate the islands they are frequently anchored to, with minimal above-ground or above-water presence. Dug into the islands or crawling down the sides of the taller seamounts, the cities are crowded by Vargr standards.

World Starport[edit]

Dudzaz has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Technology Level[edit]

Dudzaz possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Dudzaz is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
