Cyclic is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and both non-agricultural and preindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • These worldlets are working towards being an industrial world but lack an adequate workforce to do so.
  • It is a subject world of the Korsumug Empire located in the Siridor Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
  • About 80% of the population is composed of baseline humans.
  • About 20% of the population is composed of Jaibok.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Cyclic has a solitary primary star.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Cyclic is an Asteroid Belt mainworld.

The belt orbits within the outer system.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Cyclic is an Asteroid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

None of the bodies within the Cyclic Belt retain an atmosphere.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

The Cyclic Belt contains a few icy bodies. A few belt objects have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.

  • Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
  • Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

A simple chart of the Cyclic Belt showing the core of the belt and the major administration zones within it. Distances, planetoid numbers and sizes, and planetoid positions are representative.

  • The core of the belt is made up of larger bodies and lies at approximately 0.27 AU. It is around 0.07 AU wide.
  • The belt has an inner dust disk and an outer dust disk, both extending around 0.2 AU beyond the core zone.

Cyclic Belt Map Basic.png

The borders of administrative zones are based on set distances from the major named planetoids. They move in conjunction with their designated planetoid.

  • All four major named planetoids have the same orbital period and maintain a constant distance from one another.
  • Planetoids lying at different distances have different orbital periods and may pass into and out of different administration zones.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

None.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Cyclic is a formerly prosperous commercial center that is gradually failing.

  • The system has been settled for centuries.
  • The resources of the system are being exploited.

The system has been occupied by the Jaibok.

  • It has been under occupation for around two decades.
  • It has been incorporated into the Korsumug Empire.

The Korsumug Immortal Legion Fleet patrols the system.

Multiple businesses, organizations, and private interests are active within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is frequent: ships regularly arrive and depart.
  • Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Siri, a local dialect of Riftian Anglic.
  • Multiple commercial navigation beacons will be active.
  • A number of vessels may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Cyclic has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Cyclic has a population of 10 million.

  • Approximately 9.2 million humans. The majority inhabit one of four large planetoids.
  • Approximately 950,000 Jaibok, largely occupation forces and technical staff overseeing operations.

Urbanization[edit]

Cities are tunnelled into large rocky planetoids.

  • Each has its own starport.
  • Smaller facilities exist on other rocky bodies.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Cyclic possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Cyclic is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Military[edit]

No faction is currently allowed to maintain a standing military, by decree of Admiral Gagreh, the military governor representing the Korsumug Empire.

  • A major Jaibok military garrison is in place on each major planetoid.
  • Private security forces ("Feds") operate alongside the Jaibok troops.

World Law (L)[edit]

Cyclic has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: A (abundant)
  • Labor: 6 (millions)
  • Infrastructure: 9 (extensive)
  • Efficiency: +1 (average)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: +2 (ordinary)

The primary exports are mineral ores and processed metals. The chief market is Siridor.

The world is not self-sufficient and requires imports of almost every necessity, particularly foodstuffs. Much of its food comes from Weil.

  • Luxuries command premium prices.

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: A (discordant)
  • Acceptance: 9 (friendly)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: D (very abstract)

The most commonly spoken language within the system is Siri, a local dialect of Riftian Anglic.

Historical Data[edit]

The system was surveyed early in the history of the region, largely because of its abundant mineral wealth. Small mining operations had began by the mid-400s.

By the 700s control of the system was divided between the Mining Federation and the Cyclic Extraction Corporation, two competing companies. Working conditions were poor within the belt, maintenance was limited, and accidents were common. Supplies were always hard to come by and company stores sold goods and equipment at exorbitant rates: the companies fixed pay rates and prices, strictly controlled third party sales of almost any commodity in order to maintain their monopoly, and harshly punished black marketeers. As a result, workers effectively found themselves in indentured servitude.

A series of uprisings against the intolerable conditions were crushed by hired security, but in 880 an organized and well-armed rebellion overthrew company rule in much of the belt, taking control of most of the Mining Federation's territory and creating the Free Belt region.

  • The two companies were able to retain some regions of their territory.
  • The success of the rebellion prompted a series of social and economic reforms within the companies.
  • Armed liberation movements remain active within the two corporate-controlled zones.

The system was invaded and occupied by the Korsumug Empire in 1086. Armed opposition (largely consisting of private security forces) was quickly overwhelmed but "lone wolf" individuals and independent militias, operating from secret cells or from hidden bases, continue to resist the Jaibok.
