History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Swanfeh migrated from other systems to eventually settle here some time during the Long Night. They achieved a starfaring culture of some influence, spreading out to control around 30 worlds before gradually losing their technology over a period of centuries. The Swanfeh were isolated on several worlds when other Humans entered Gateway Sector, and either allied with or were conquered by various opportunist newcomer groups. Pirate bands operating in the region found the Swanfeh worlds to be ideal havens. For centuries, Carlton and the surrounding systems were a free port for pirates and smugglers, but in time, the profits of piracy were used to create legitimate business. A true polity emerged, albeit still reflecting its piratical roots.
World Starport[edit]
Carlton has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population[edit]
92 million.
Urbanization[edit]
The principal cities are Carlton Down and New Haven, both of which benefit from an almost complete absence of government interference with starport business.
