History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The population of the neutral world of Byeggra prefers autonomy and self-government to the strictures of either the Hegemony of Lorean or the Julian Protectorate proper. Although originally settled by both Solomani and Vilani during the end of the Rule of Man, the world has been ruled for the last four centuries by a bloodline descended from the minor Vilani merchant house Kukurasiila, Under Kukurasiilan influence, Byeggra culture emphasizes the traditions and mindset of the original Vilani settlers. While some Vargr and other humans have settled on the planet as well, the bureaucratic elite are still relatively pure Vilani genetically. Members of the upper class will frequently seek marriage partners from offworld of pure Vilani strain out of respect for Kukurasiilan traditions. Originally, this practice was implemented to encourage genetic purity while avoiding inbreeding. Marriage arrangement and marriage partner location services are thus considered time-honored occupations on Byeggra.
This planet is populated by distinct Solomani and Vilani: the two cultures have not merged into one, as is common within the Third Imperium. The government is pro-Vilani, and racially pure Vilani dominate the ruling bureaucracies. There is a trace Vargr population on the world, a few hundred descendants of two Suedzuk Vargr packs who were marooned here when their pirate base and corsairs were destroyed in a major Star Legion strike two centuries ago. Very few humans venture to the tropical continent where the Vargr lurk..
Excluding the melodramatically-named Continent of Blood, Byeggra is a very pleasant world, almost all of which is uninhabited. Humaniti has restricted itself to Limarshuggi, a large tropical island where most of the 600,000 inhabitants reside. Life is very comfortable on Limarshuggi, and there is still lots of space on the island for more families: no one is interested in establishing new settlements on virgin soil. The stability-oriented Vilani government likes to spread tales of ghouls and goblins Suedzuk packs roaming the wilderness, to discourage Solomani expeditions.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Byeggra has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
