Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]

Any surface water is evaporated through the thin atmosphere and lost to space. Fortunately, the world features vast reserves of water underground, in hidden lakes and seas. Browne's society is long experienced at preserving this resource.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Browne is home to two nearly independent ecosystems. There is a vast and impressive desert ecosystem on the planet's surface and an equally diverse aquatic ecosystem in the subterranean lakes and seas.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Browne is a poor, high-population desert world located on the edge of the Great Rift in The Borderland Subsector of the Trojan Reach. The system is non-aligned.

  • Browne was founded thousands of years ago by the crew of a misjumped heavy scout from the First Imperium.
  • Left alone throughout the entirety of the Second Imperium and the Long Night, descendants of the original castaways settled the neighboring system of Villane (Trojan Reach 3029) using sublight ships.
  • Browne was recontacted only in 354, by which time the descendants of those fifteen scouts numbered more than fifteen billion.
  • J5 couriers bring vitally needed items to the isolated world.

Non-canon: Most of Browne's population abandoned the world in the 1130s. Isolated by the Quarantine, the world's industries were threatened with economic collapse, leaving little choice but to emigrate for the Regency or Aslan Hierate safeworlds. For those who remained, the offworld emigration led to a substantial increase in living standards, as the now vacated arcologies had ample room even for the couple billion who stayed. Most of the world's orbital and dirtside farms remain in service, and substantial exports are shipped to other "Crosshair" worlds and even the Aslan Hierate. Those not engaged in farming or manufacturing are supported by the remittances sent back by the emigrants and their children, who anticipate returning to the homeworld when the Quarantine is lifted, and hire their neighbors and relatives left behind to watch over and maintain their old residences and property. The isolated population of this system now commonly refers to this world by the name of Towne.
