101 Corporations is a well-written BITS product created for Marc Miller's Traveller, but also useful in any version of Traveller.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

101 Corporations describes the businesses - large and small - with whom your Traveller players may interact. Whether they are interested in buying a MegaboingTM Grav Pogo Stick from FAMILLE SPOFULAM or a patron wants them to transport a geneered ‘dragon’ from HYPAGENE, the main purpose of every business is to separate their customers from their hard-earned cash. Sometimes, they don’t care what they have to do to get it...

Included are:

  • 101 Corporations of every size and type
  • A brief description of their background, motivations and key characters
  • Adventure seeds - from simple money-making schemes to corporate corruption and boardroom back-stabbing

Intentionally designed to be generic and usable with any of the Traveller rule systems, 101 Corporations is part of the BITS series of aids for Traveller referees; combined with 101 Governments and 101 Religions it helps flesh out new worlds, or combined with 101 Cargos or 101 Starcrews it adds background to cargo shipments and the employers or owners of starships encountered by your adventurers.

Meta-history & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The idea for 101 Corporations grew out of a Traveller Mailing List (TML) set of starship design contests under the aegis of the 'Imperial Ship Builders Association'. Many people were putting as much effort into creating the background to the companies producing the ships as they were into the designs themselves, leading to unique organisations such as Famille Spofulam, AuricTech Shipyards and Gridlore Technologies were created.

From this genesis came the idea that a book could be produced detailing all these companies. 101 Corporations is that book.

It starts with the UCPUniversal Corporate Profile – a structured way to describe any company, then moves into descriptions of all the companies along with plot ideas for involving them with player groups. The final section describes typical generic corporate plot-lines and has a index listing all the UCPs.
