History and background[edit]

Khandi's strong growth in population since the early 600s, combined with its total lack of agricultural capacity, has created a need for imported agroproduce. Neighboring system are unable to fulfill this need. The world is presently able to feed it population through the use of hydroponic facilities, quality foodstuffs still command premium prices.

The most important festival on Khandi is Yastyr, when people exchange food delicacies with family and friends. Traditional is the egg of the Hoopfish of Arnakhish (Dagudashaag 2317).

Although many Khangans are vegetarian, a significant minority belong to so call meat cults, which gather at elaborate ceremonies to taste strange and exotic meat dishes. The Travellers' Aid Society advises keeping any pets confined to starships or the security area of the TAS Hotel.
