System Data[edit]

Rath-Hirida System[edit]

The primary is Rath, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.42 Sols, a mass of 0.825 Sols and a diameter of 1.263 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (II) a vacuum worldlet. (III) Hirida orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) a small gas giant, (VI) a small ice giant, and (VII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Quine Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Quine, an ordinary orange main sequence star lying some 3900 AU from Rath. It has a luminosity of 0.352 Sols, a mass of 0.774 Sols and a diameter of 1.168 million km. The inner system consists of (II) a dense stony planetoid belt – orbital position (I) is empty. (III) Kavanagh, a standard atmosphere hospitable world orbits in the habitable zone. (IV) a large gas giant, (V) a ringed small gas giant, (VI) a sparse icy planetoid belt, and (VI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer zone. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(III) Hirida[edit]

(III) Hirida is designated the mainworld. It orbits Rath at a mean distance of 0.72 AU (107.7 million km), within the systems habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 53 days 22 hours and a rotation period of 68.75 hours. The axial tilt is 13 degrees. Hirida has a diameter of 8,199 km, a density of 5.41 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.62 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.58 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N2), 19% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 63% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges are around 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 19°C. The atmosphere is active and powerful weather systems driven by the oceans and the star sweep the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 211 million km², Land surface area: 158 million km², Water surface area: 35 million km². Hirida's hydrosphere, the Circle Sea, is concentrated into a broad band around the equator and tropical latitudes, giving way to densely vegetated islands and archipelagos in the northern and southern temperate zones. The poles and subpolar regions are each dominated by huge continents (named Nord and Sude respectively) that are barren at their centers but have thriving ecosystems around their coastal fringes. Juniper, the largest of the southern islands, is the site of the main settlement.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Hirida has abundant native life. Flora tends towards multiple tall narrow stems and has circular foliage, typically a greenish-purple colour. Their metabolic functions power the process of atmospheric renewal. Native fauna comes in many shapes and sizes but the single most common body pattern is Bilateral HBS-T-AN-LL-T, with a skeleton interior, ichor fluids, and covered in scales. Native lifeforms have a substantially different chemistry to humans and are not generally consumable.

(III) Kavanagh[edit]

(III) Kavanagh (UWP Y565000-0) is categorised as a hospitable world. It orbits Quine, the companion star, at a mean distance of 0.67 AU (100.2 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 227 days 17 hours and a rotation period of 14.25 hours. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Kavanagh has a diameter of 7,846 km, a density of 5.38 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.61 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.88 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N2), 18% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 47% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.2m. Mean surface temperature: 9°C. The atmosphere is active and weather systems powered by the seas and the star roll across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Secondary World Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 193 million km², Land surface area: 158 million km², Water surface area: 35 million km². The northern hemisphere is utterly dominated by Coricus Mons, an enormous peak with a height of over 32,000m and a footprint of more than 800,000 km². It is surrounded by largely flat plains. Kavanagh's hydrosphere is concentrated into three major bodies, the Crescent Sea in the northern hemisphere and the Medensa Sea and the Sea of Han, occupying the majority of the southern hemisphere and much of equator. The polar regions are covered by permanent icecaps.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Kavanagh has abundant but primitive native life. All lifeforms are microscopic multicellular organisms, lacking any clear distinction between plants and animals. Their metabolic functions serve to power the process of atmospheric renewal.
