Glowbirds are actually hosts of symbiotic algae, which provide additional nutrients. Excess radiation cause those algae reproduce more actively, which benefits the bird host. In short, glow birds flock to radiation sources to eat.
Glowbird (Creature) History & Background
With their straight beaks and brilliant plumage, they can be very beautiful pets. Preferring a "hot" environment, they often roost in what power facilities and engine rooms that they can. High tech societies that make liberal use of fission reactors, such as radiothermal generators (RTGs) will find these birds everywhere.
Their spread is mostly accidental, although it can be hard to get rid of them, short of shooting them on sight.
Their meat is foul smelling, and their plumage wards off many predators.
