Gateway is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a part of The Retreat in the Baradis Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data[edit]

Postern-Gateway System[edit]

The primary is Postern, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.42 Sols, a mass of 0.825 Sols, and a diameter of 1.263 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Gateway orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a very thin atmosphere worldlet, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VI) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(III) Gateway[edit]

(III) Gateway is designated the mainworld. It orbits Postern at a mean distance of 0.67 AU (100.2 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 220 days 13 hours and a rotation period of 33 hours. The axial tilt is 15 degrees. Gateway has a diameter of 7,894 km, a density of 4.97 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.56 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.61 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 22% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 63% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 23°C. The atmosphere is active and large weather systems driven by the star and the oceans cross the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite[edit]

Gateway retains a single natural satellite, a thin atmosphere hospitable world named Portal:

(IIIa) Portal (UWP F354369-7, orbiting Gateway at 25 Diameters/197,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 196 million km², Water surface area: 123 million km², Land surface area: 73 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Gateway, the mainworld, lying within the habitable zone, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

  • Portal, Gateway's hospitable moon has has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Gateway has a routine quality starport.

  • A Class-C Starport Facility has minimal if any shipyards and can only perform extremely limited repair work.
  • This facility has many very skilled personnel who can perform surprisingly sophisticated repair work despite the limited facilities.
  • This facility has refueling infrastructure and limited refining capabilities. One may purchase unrefined fuel here.
  • Starports of this class rarely have both a Lowport and a Highport.

World technology level[edit]

Gateway possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft.

World government[edit]

Gateway has a Civil Service Bureaucracy government.

  • It is a government by agencies employing individuals selected for their expertise.
  • The typical power source of this government is an Oligarchy.
  • The typical power structure of this government is a Unitary State.
