Axasorsa is a high-population, pre-rich, agricultural garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts and a billion or more sophonts in population size..

  • Nearly 100% of the population is composed of Jellyfish.
  • Less than 10% of the population is composed of baseline humans and other non-human sophonts.

Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]

This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

System Data[edit]

Sacrent-Axasorsa System[edit]

The primary is Sacrent, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 2.126 Sols, a mass of 1.144 Sols, and a diameter of 1.639 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere inner world, (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (III) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world. (IV) Axasorsa orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (V) a dense stony planetoid belt, (VI) a ringed very large gas giant, and (VII) a large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Lisio Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Lisio, a dim red subdwarf star that lies approximately 4,100 AU from Sacrent. It has a luminosity of 0.00054 Sols, a mass of 0.07 Sols, and a diameter of 91,500 km. (I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (II) a small gas giant form the outer system. Only the gas giant retains satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(IV) Axasorsa[edit]

(IV) Axasorsa is designated the mainworld. It orbits Sacrent at a mean distance of 1.1 AU (164.6 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 1 year 29 days and a rotation period of 28.5 hours. The axial tilt is 17 degrees. Axasorsa has a diameter of 10,384 km, a density of 6.28 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.93 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 1.48 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 22% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 73% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 23°C. The climate is Temperate-Warm and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the ocean sweep across the globe.

Satellite[edit]

Axasorsa retains a single natural satellite, a vacuum worldlet named Vaber:

(IVa) Vaber (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 20 Diameters/210,000 km)

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 339 million km², Water surface area: 247 million km², Land surface area: 92 million km². There are small polar ice caps.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Sacrent-Axasorsa System[edit]

The hot marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (III) (within the H– region of the inner system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and moisture. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

Axasorsa, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Lisio Subsystem[edit]

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Notes[edit]

The mainworld of the system is also known as "Sorsa's World". It's current (and widely accepted) name – Axasorsa – is almost certainly a result of poor data management. The name appears to refer to Lieutenant Axel Sorsa, the commander of the Range Valentine, a Third Confederation-era survey vessel known to have been operating in the area during the 37th century. Records from the time indicate the chief surveyor within the system to have been one "Sorsa's World".

World Starport[edit]

Axasorsa has a routine quality starport.

  • A Class-C Starport Facility has minimal if any shipyards and can only perform extremely limited repair work.
  • This facility has many very skilled personnel who can perform surprisingly sophisticated repair work despite the limited facilities.
  • This facility has refueling infrastructure and limited refining capabilities. One may purchase unrefined fuel here.
  • Starports of this class rarely have both a Lowport and a Highport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Axasorsa possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Printing press, the mechanical telegraph, and the first audio recordings.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Coal or other simple hydrocarbon fuels and early steam engines.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Bicycles and early steam coaches with advanced roadways.
    • Water: Advanced sailing and early steam engine ships.
    • Air: The earliest hot air balloons.

World Government[edit]

Axasorsa has a Balkanized government.

  • No central ruling authority exists. Rival governments compete for control.
  • The typical power source of this government is a Balkanization.
  • The typical power structure of this government is a Confederation (Anarchy).

World Military[edit]

Each individual Jellyfish community maintains a force of Defenders, gathered as necessary and proportionate to the threat that is faced.

Human settlement: Dryland Yeomanry, 105,000 personnel equipped to TL 7 standards.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: B (Abundant)
  • Labor: 8 (Hundreds of millions)
  • Infrastructure: 6 (Limited)
  • Efficiency: −2 (Fair)

World Demographics[edit]

Population 1,150,000,000

  • Native Non-Human Races:
    • Jellyfish: 1.147 billion (native sophonts, almost 100% of the population), primarily inhabiting shallow waters around the equatorial and tropical coastlines.
    • Hoppers: 55,000 (less than 0.01% of the population), concentrated within hives in human communities.

Urbanization[edit]

The continents are largely virgin wilderness, but the oceans – particularly the benthic zones along equatorial coastlines – are extensively developed. They are divided into ancestral territories held by communities of Jellyfish.

The surface starport facilities lie in a desert region on a northern tropical subcontinental land mass named Genthini. Dryland (population 1.7 million) is the major human community and lies a few tens of kilometers away. Marshport (population 900,000), lying on Genthini's southern coast, is a major submersible port and trading center, and is the main point of contact between humans and Jellyfish. Dryland, Marshport and the starport facilities are linked by efficient transport networks and have a substantially better degree of technological advancement than the rest of Axasorsa, being rated as TL 7.

  • A large Hopper hive lies on the outskirts of Dryland.

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 8 (Discordant)
  • Acceptance: 9 (Friendly)
  • Strangeness: 7 (Confusing)
  • Symbols: 7 (Somewhat concrete)
