History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The descendants of the original colonists on Aergghdza (Knoellighz 2303) D767859-4 Ga Lt Ph Pi Ri have history books that chronicle their settlement of the mainworld in Rourukhae Subsector. The world lies on the so-called Gateway to Ghoekhnael, a Jump-1 main of systems. Once stabilized and embedded on this Rich, Garden world, the Vargr originally from the distant Coreward border of the Democracy of Greats simply allowed their average planetary Tech Level to gently deteriorate to its 1105 rating. The Industrial citizens have maintained hardcopy libraries of their previous technologies yet have decided to wait out the growing edge of the Greats to catch up to them. It was not the colony’s initial intent, but the beauty of Aegghdza welcomed and lulled the Vargr to a simpler life. The ruling Feudal Technocracy has put into place a policy to welcome the first Greats vessels that re-establish contact with this world.
As an Industrial Age world, Aegghdza is growing on the merit of the planet’s wealth of comforts such as a 0.9 surface gravity, a standard and breathable atmosphere featuring a 1.1 average pressure and sizeable oceans and seas teeming with life. Yet, since colonization, the population has yet to reach 1 billion, perhaps gently stunted by their resting Tech Level. Though the planet carries the knowledge of advanced technology, only scientists have made laboratory use of such. The average citizen is satisfied at TL 4 lifestyles and culture.
Despite technological backsliding, the Ministry of Arts and Sciences has kept open the D-rated Downport and routinely allows visitation of the odd starship to land and do business. Oddly enough, until Aegghdza becomes annexed by the Democracy of Greats, the local Feudal Technocracy has graciously set up an extraterritoriality zone at the Downport and a few lodging establishments in the primitive Startown of Gaetdz.
The Ministry of Economy allows the export of raw and refined minerals, (which has yet to Taint the atmosphere), dense and durable wood, spices which double as pharmaceutical painkillers, Industrial Age petrochemicals and lubricants and the black marketed smuggling of the illegal drug tetrodotoxin found in a deadly giant squid that produces enough to incapacitate up to six healthy Vargr at one ink jet water cloud. Feathers of a bolt-hawk, a dive-bombing, flock-hunting, and predator raptor with a wingspan of three meters are also a valuable decoration in clothing and accessories.
Separated for so long from the Democracy of Greats, the Vargr of Aegghdza have developed Cultural Differences from their distant cousins. Fashion and Charismatic Standing dress have been adopted by the Feudal Technocracy. Fine apparel for each of the castes and Ministries delineate the Careers of Aeggdzha. The higher one’s Charisma, the more expensive and extravagant their apparel must present to the onlooker. Being underdressed for one’s Charisma, (or Social Standing if non-Vargr) can earn a visitor dismissal or ostracism from another’s company. A captain of a visiting vessel is assumed to be the best-dressed crew to emerge from the airlock door. A citizen of Aegghdza literally wears their Charisma and Career on their sleeves.
